BRENTWOOD ACADEMY
Brentwood, TN
Mission Brentwood Academy is a coeducational, independent college-preparatory school dedicated
to nurturing and challenging the whole person--body, mind, and spirit--to the glory of God.
Purpose Brentwood Academy is a coeducational, independent college-preparatory school whose
purpose is to nurture and develop the whole student--not just educate the mind. The goal of the school is to do more than
simply educate young people for college; rather, we are preparing them for life.
Philosophy The school's philosophy is symbolized by a triangle whose sides represent spiritual,
academic, and athletic development. The base of the triangle represents spiritual growth, recognizing that the academy's spiritual
emphasis supports the academic and physical achievements of its students.
Objectives In keeping with the academy's purpose and philosophy, the board of trustees has established
specific objectives for the headmaster and faculty to follow in each area of major emphasis:
Academic
- Brentwood Academy offers a college-preparatory course of study in major subjects designed to develop
the knowledge, intellect, and perception of each student according to his or her ability.
- Believing that every graduate should be prepared for the college or university which best meets his or her
needs, Brentwood Academy provides the resources necessary to accomplish this goal. However, since a student's innate
ability and personal effort play a major role in determining academic achievement, we cannot ensure that all students will
avail themselves of the opportunities presented or gain admission to the college of their choice.
- Brentwood Academy's enrollment is limited by design in order to maintain a close family atmosphere
and achieve an optimum student/teacher ratio.
Athletic
- Since the school's purpose is to develop all aspects of its students' lives, they must attend their daily
athletic activities as responsibly as they attend classes.
- The goal of the school's athletic and physical education programs is to help students improve their skills
and conditioning while they learn the important lessons of self-discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
Spiritual
- The academy's role in promoting spiritual growth is to provide students with an atmosphere conducive to
the development of a closer relationship with God.
- The headmaster and faculty are to develop and strengthen the spiritual and moral growth of students by their
personal character and conduct, rather than by teaching their individual religious or denominational beliefs.
Summary Through its emphasis on academic, athletic, and spiritual development, Brentwood Academy
strives to create an atmosphere of acceptance and encouragement designed to help each student recognize and attempt to reach
his or her full potential.
